Now there is expensive fashion and then there is expensive fashion! Balmain are insanely priced. So for those of you who would like to buy a T-shirt with holes in it that would cost nearly two grand - then you're in luck - Balmain are opening a second less expensive line.
Like MCQ is to McQueen. The line will be called Pierre Balmain and rumour has it that the line will be launched in New York in September.
While the design team will be different, all the designs will have to be okay-d by the main design team before hitting the shop floor. It's one of hopefully a series of new and fresh ideas to be brought in by new designer Olivier Rousteing who replaced Christophe Decarnin earlier this year. Let's face it, Balmain design the same thing over and over - skinny jeans, ripped T-shirts and pointy shouldered jackets. Which is great since they do it so well. But fashion is about change and all I see coming down the catwalk is the same jacket and pants. So I got bored with the collection and bored fast. Not to mention, their prices are insane and unreasonable. Time for a change I think and I welcome Rousteing if this is his idea of shaking the company up!
