You really should know who
WILLIAM CAMERON MENZIES (1896-1957) is! Menzies played many roles behind the scenes; director, art director and production designer included. He was noted for his distinctive visual flair.
A fine place to start is by viewing:
Gone With the Wind (1939). This great film is an example of Menzie's visual flair, especially the final scene of the first half.
Watch this and then see these other four films.
Things To Come (1936) From a script by H. G. Welles, this is an impressive look at a possible future with amazing sets and effects. But why does the space gun have a gun sight on the end of its barrel?
The Thief Of Bagdad (1924) Menzies was Art Director and Production Designer on this Douglas Fairbanks spectacular. He also worked on the 1940 version as director (one of many) and art director (uncredited).
Invaders From Mars (1953) This is a delightfully eerie little science fiction film where a boy tries to convince the authorities that Martians have landed and are taking over the city. Menzies directed and designed the film.
Around the World In Eighty Days (1956) Menzies was associate producer on this all star extravaganza.
