1996 - In March 1996, Sting released his 5th solo album, entitled Mercury Falling. The 11 song disc (which was only 10 in the US and Canada as the track, Twenty Five to Midnight was not included for some inexplicable reason) is considered by many fans as a transitional album for Sting, moving his music away from jazz oriented rock to a more adult contemporary sound. Critics also did not regard it as highly as his earlier records, nor as well as they would rate its follow up, Brand New Day. Nevertheless, Sting launched a world tour in support of the album, which would take him to 4 continents in 16 months. This FM broadcast captures the last show from that US portion of that tour, a FM broadcast from Houston on September 8, 1996, 23 years ago today.
