A Wilder Night Without Love!

As some few might be aware from past posts at the original Dojo, I am a monster Webb Wilder fan, and his latest album just dropped onto my doorstep a few days ago. Each one of Webb's albums feels a little like it might just be the last one so I treasure them when they show up. The gruff hard-scrabble old-fashioned blues which has taken some space on earlier albums is gone and replaced by more lighter tunes of romance and regret with a country twang. My favorite Webb Wilder songs were written or co-written by R.S. Field and he's on hand for a few tunes this time including the title track, a typically clever sweet tune. Webb has a wonderfully flexible voice and can sing a pretty love song or a bouncing rockabilly wonder. I've listened to it several times and it just gets better and better.

Above is the back cover carrying through the comic book magazine motif. One nifty detail about the front cover aside from the delicious way it evokes a vintage DC romance comic cover is the little inset of Webb Wilder's first album cover on the wall. It Came to Nashville is where it all began many moons ago. This work is by Flournoy Holmes, a master of his craft over decades not at unlike Webb himself. For more on Holmes check out this link.

Get the album here if you want, and as Webb always says...word hard, rock hard, eat hard, sleep hard, grow big, wear glasses if you need 'em!
